Motor dysfunction in mild cognitive impairment as tested by kinematic analysis and transcranial magnetic stimulation

چکیده
Previous studies have demonstrated voluntary movement alterations as well motor cortex excitability and plasticity changes in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). To investigate the pathophysiology of abnormalities MCI, we tested possible relationships between primary patients. Fourteen amnestic MCI (aMCI) 16 healthy controls were studied. Cognitive assessment was performed using clinical scales. Finger tapping recorded by a motion analysis system. Transcranial magnetic stimulation used to test input/output curve evoked potentials, intracortical inhibition, short-latency afferent inhibition. Primary probed theta burst stimulation. We investigated correlations abnormalities, scores, cortical neurophysiological parameters. showed less rhythmic but no other abnormalities. Cortical measures normal patients, whereas reduced. Movement rhythm correlated frontal dysfunction scores. Our study abnormal changes, correlation two. Altered dysfunction. results contribute understanding pathophysiological mechanisms MCI.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Address Mild Cognitive Impairment in the Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Study
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation technique with potential to improve memory. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which still lacks a specific therapy, is a clinical syndrome associated with increased risk of dementia. This study aims to assess the effects of high-frequency repetitive TMS (HF rTMS) on everyday memory of the elderly with MCI. We conducted a ...
متن کاملReliability of Motor Evoked Potentials Induced by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: The Effects of Initial Motor Evoked Potentials Removal
Introduction: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a useful tool for assessment of corticospinal excitability (CSE) changes in both healthy individuals and patients with brain disorders. The usefulness of TMS-elicited motor evoked potentials (MEPs) for the assessment of CSE in a clinical context depends on their intra-and inter-session reliability. This study aimed to evaluate if removal ...
متن کاملTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation Intensities in Cognitive Paradigms
BACKGROUND Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has become an important experimental tool for exploring the brain's functional anatomy. As TMS interferes with neural activity, the hypothetical function of the stimulated area can thus be tested. One unresolved methodological issue in TMS experiments is the question of how to adequately calibrate stimulation intensities. The motor threshold (M...
متن کاملTranscranial magnetic stimulation in cognitive rehabilitation.
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can generate an increase or a decrease of neuronal excitability, which can modulate cognition and behaviour. Transcranial magnetic stimulation-induced cortical changes have been shown to result in neural plasticity. Thus, TMS provides an important opportunity to gain more insight into the mechanisms responsible for the remarkable flexibility o...
